Remix of John Dyer's film photo of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, taken in 1995 for Texas Monthly, weeks before she was murdered. She wears a hand-made jacket and poses regally in an alcove of the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. Laser engraving wood freezes details from the photo into sepia.
‘95 SINFÍN
(ENDLESS 1995)
Laser engraved fiberboard, produced using a Glowforge Pro laser cutter. This piece was created for the 214Selena festival in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. Selena’s influence on Tejano and Chicano culture is indelible, as we know through the celebration of her music. For me, though, her image is most ubiquitous. In images like this, Selena is frozen in time, as if 1995 never ended.
